NOFI Inflatable Oil Booms (1000-series)

The NOFI inflatable booms – the 1000-series – is made for open waters oil containment, from the coastline to the high seas, offshore.
The 1000-series is designed with an outside freeboard. Inside is connected a string of independently inflated 3m long air chambers. The skirt is made up of a typical heavy-duty fabric and a unique additional Feather Net to which the bottom tension, galvanized chain is attached.
The Feather Net improves the NOFI booms’ dynamic response characteristics i.e. the capability to follow the wave motions and thus also its oil containment capacity. This was amply documented during the US Coast Guard tests in the OHMSETT tank in 1992. The tests documented that the oil could be contained in waves with a towing speed of 1,2 knots which is significantly better than ordinary curtain booms which tend to lose oil at 0,7 to 0,9 knot towing speed. US Coast Guard Report CG-D-19-96.
For coastline and open ocean operations we recommend the NOFI 450S and 600S models. For rougher conditions with high waves we recommend the high seas, offshore models NOFi 800S and 1000S.
The NOFI 1000-series booms are delivered in standard lengths of 100m. For inflation we have fitted a high capacity Monsun XII valve in each air chamber, which results in easy and fast inflation of the booms. 200m of NOFI 1000S is inflated in less than 30 minutes by 2 men and the equivalent length of NOFI 450S is inflated in less than 10 minutes.
A full range of boom reels, power packs and containerised systems compliment each model of the NOFI 1000-series inflatable booms.
