The system consisted of a short inside NOFI Guide Boom, a Norwegian Oil Trawl well suited for concentrating the oil before skimming would be performed and finally of a long outside NOFI Guide Boom which sweeping width was adjusted by a Cross Bridle.

In 1989 the FIOCS represented the best available technology for offshore, high seas oil containment – still with a restriction in towing speed of 1,2 knots.

In December 2009 Shell Anchorage placed a new order with us for their renewed drilling operations in Alaska. Shell took full advantage of the NOFI Buster technology allowing towing speeds of 4 to 5 knots and ordered a complete NOFI Ocean Buster system. This NOFI Ocean Buster has a freeboard of 1000mm/ 42” and is fitted with a combined Front Sweep and a set of High Speed Guide booms.

The oil spill response industry has adopted to the NOFI Buster Technology and there is at present either in use or on order more than 150 Harbour – Current – Ocean Busters world wide.
