The X Challenge's high standards - an oil recovery rate of at least 2.500 gallons per minute and efficiency ratio of at least 70%  oil to water - was easily passed by the NOFI Team: 2.712 gallons combined* mean oil recovery rate - 83%  combined* mean oil recovery efficiency.

The prototype NOFI Current Buster 6 with an integrated tailor made NOREN pump has a number of technical improvements compared with the classic Current Busters of which there are now more than 250 systems in operation world-wide.

The competition took place during August/September 2011 in the world's largest onshore oil in water test tank (200m x 20m) OHMSETT, NJ, USA in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horzon oil spill response (April - July 2010) where 48 Current Busters were in operation.
