Oil Spill India 2011
29th - 1st October
Goa, India
M/S Server in ballast after a call at a West Norwegian harbour en route to Murmansk went aground on 12th January outside the Fedje island on Norway’s west coast in near gale weather. The vessel may have leaked as much as 370 tons heavy fuel oil and broke in two.
The forepart was towed to a safe haven at the Coast Centre Base outside Bergen while the wheelhouse section was left grounded exposed to the extremely bad weather which has hit the Norwegian west-coast the last three days. The Dept. for Emergency Preparedness, Norwegian Coastal Administration, has responded to the heavy bunker spill and mobilized a number of the Coast Guard vessels as well as smaller vessels.
– Presently the response covers both at sea oil spill response and shoreline cleanup at the Fedje island. Several coast guard vessels with NOFI 800S offshore booms onboard performed at sea containment and recovery operations during a short weather window and NCA has reported that 130 tons of oil and water were recovered. – See picture.
The forepart moored on a rock at 6m water depth is now surrounded by booms, including NOFI 800S. MMB – Maritim Miljø-Beredskap is presently on standby duties day and night to safeguard the moorings (the Bergen Met-office still forecasting extreme weather) and possible leakages from the forepart. Sorbent booms from AllMaritim have also been deployed by MMB around the docks of CCB to prevent already escaped oil from the wreck to spread further. – See picture of forepart at CCB – Coast Centre Base.
