Oil Absorbent Booms work quickly and have a high absorbent capacity and rupture strength. Ecosorb Sorbent Booms are available in two different fiber qualities, cotton/plant fiber, and polypropylene. Ecosorb Oil Absorbent boom is the marked leading sorbent boom.
Using Sorbent booms instead of strictly containment booms demands fewer resources, and is an excellent first responder product. Sorbent booms can also be used to seal leakage points between mechanical booms and docks, mooring points, ships, etc. If the spill takes place on the docks sorbent booms and smaller absorbent formats can also be used to prevent the spill from reaching the water/sea.
* All dispersants including soap will breach the sorbents' surface tension causing them to absorb water. Let the Sorbent saturate and remove it before you start cleaning.
* Ecosorb Sorbent booms absorb oil, not water.
ECOSORB® Sorbent Oil Booms with Skirt
Sorbent boom with skirts combines the qualities of a classic harbor boom and an absorbent boom. You can extend the boom to the desired length by connecting multiple sections with the attached velcro and carabine hooks. The Oil Booms are delivered in big bags for easy handling.

Fiber type
Cotton or Polypropylene??
Both fibers will repel water and absorb diesel/oil very effectively. The main difference is the time the Oil Boom can lay in the sea or water.
Polypropylene has the advantage that it can lie out in the water for months, as a contingency in case of an accident should happen. Often used by contractors who depend on having a standby Oil Boom on the water during the whole operation or project. Another advantage of Polypropylene: It is also possible to dry the Oil Boom and use it again if it is not contaminated by oil.
Cotton is by far the most sold fiber in sales volume. Typical stay in sea/water of a maximum of 7 days. Often used by the fire service or private industry in actions where a spill has occurred at sea and absorbent Oil Booms with skirts are deployed to quickly contain and absorb oil/diesel spill. Cotton is a natural fiber that is biodegradable, this reduces the environmental consequences of any damage to the oil boom that leads to the discharge of fiber into the sea.
All absorbent oil booms contaminated by oil must be disposed of as special waste after use!
